Melbourne, Australia
| 06-08 December 2021
IEEE Cybermatics Congress 2021 will be held at Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne is Australia's second biggest city, regularly named one of the world's most liveable cities, and the first capital of Australia, features elegant Victorian buildings built during the 1850s Gold Rush and the 1880s boom. Australia's "Sports Capital" is the venue of the Australian Open, the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and the Melbourne Cup, a top equestrian event. Melbourne's cultural energy is apparent everywhere; its visual arts, literary, theatre and, especially, live music scenes are vigorous and popular. The annual Melbourne Festival (in October, one of the best times to visit) features a great range of events, and the Writers Festival is a reader's and writer's delight.
The city is strongly influenced by its original settlers from Britain and Ireland, later on Italians and Greeks, and more recently Vietnamese, and is an ethnic mélange of over 140 nations. The people of Marvellous Melbourne (as it was called in the 1800s) love to converse and live in lively neighborhoods. When traveling through the city, many rely on the trams, part of what gives this city of nearly 4 million its cosmopolitan charm.
The city's architecture is a wild mix of old and new. You can find art pieces throughout the metropolitan area of this original city by the Yarra River. In Melbourne, the visitor will be pleased to find plenty of green parks, waterfront, and space. Its extensive parks are sanctuaries where the city seems a thousand miles away. Absolute cleanliness is apparent; all public areas are kept immaculately pristine. This capital of Victoria is well worth a visit of several days, both for its own numerous attractions, and those in nearby provincial and coastal areas.
● Public transport: Public transport is heavily used in Australia by locals, commuters and visitors alike. Melbourne offers free tram rides within the city centre, but to use public transport outside of the free tram zone, you need to purchase a Myki Card. You can purchase a myki card from retail outlets displaying the myki sign, visitor centres and at train stations.
● Train: Trains are a great way to visit attractions across the city and reach the surrounding suburbs, with services running daily from early morning to late at night. Major stations in the city include Central, Flinders and Southern Cross Station. Catch the train to reach attractions including Melbourne Aquarium, Marvel Stadium, and a range of destinations including South Yarra and Brighton via the Sandringham Line, Richmond and St Kilda via the South Morang and Hurstbridge Line.
● Bus: The bus network is another efficient way of hopping around metro Melbourne and popular neighbourhoods. To reach Fitzroy by bus from the city, catch the 200 and 207 buses, Collingwood on the 302, 303, 305 and 318, and South Yarra and Prahan on the 216, 219, 220 services. Use the journey planner to find your route.
● Getting to and from the airport: You can use public transport, taxis or rideshare to get to and from Melbourne airport. For a convenient option, catch the SkyBus express service that runs 24 hours a day, stopping at terminals one, three and four. SkyBus also operate a service to and from Avalon Airport. Both airport services stop at Southern Cross Station on Spencer Street in the city. Note that the SkyBus services do not accept myki cards, and tickets are purchased either online or at the airport.
